Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about working with Columbia Carpentry. Can't find your answer? Get in touch.
How long does a custom kitchen renovation take?
A typical project takes 4-6 weeks for cabinet production after design approval, plus 1-2 weeks for installation. The full process from initial consultation to completed installation is usually 8-12 weeks. Complex projects with extensive millwork may take longer — we'll give you a clear timeline during your consultation.
What areas do you serve?
We serve Okotoks, Calgary, High River, Black Diamond, Turner Valley, De Winton, Millarville, Cochrane, Airdrie, and communities across southern Alberta. Our showroom is located at 101 Stockton Point in Okotoks.
Do you offer free consultations?
Yes. We offer free in-home or showroom consultations where we discuss your vision, take measurements, and walk you through material and design options. There's no obligation — it's simply the best way for us to understand your space and give you an accurate quote.
What type of cabinets do you build?
We specialize in frameless European-style cabinetry. This means no face frame on the front of the cabinet box, which gives you more interior storage space and a clean, modern aesthetic. Our cabinets feature dovetailed solid birch drawer boxes, soft-close hinges and slides on every cabinet, and premium melamine or solid wood finishes. Every cabinet is custom-sized to fit your space exactly.
What is the difference between frameless and framed cabinetry?
Frameless (European-style) cabinets have no face frame, giving you more interior storage space and a sleek, modern look where doors and drawers cover the entire cabinet box. Framed cabinets have a traditional wood frame on the front. We build frameless cabinets because they maximize storage, look cleaner, and are the standard in high-end European kitchens.
Do you handle countertops?
We coordinate countertop design and installation through our partner Bordt Stone & Tile. After your cabinetry is installed, their team templates with laser precision, then fabricates and installs your chosen stone — quartz, granite, or marble. Typical turnaround is 2-3 weeks from template to install. Having a single point of contact for cabinets and countertops keeps your project on schedule.
How much do custom cabinets cost?
Every kitchen is different, so pricing depends on the size of your space, door style, materials, and complexity. Custom cabinetry is an investment that typically costs more than big-box store options, but you get cabinets built exactly to your specifications with premium materials and hardware that will last decades. We provide detailed quotes after your free consultation so there are no surprises.
Can I see samples before committing?
Absolutely. Our Okotoks showroom has hundreds of door styles, colours, and wood species on display. We also provide 3D design renderings so you can see exactly what your kitchen will look like before production begins.
Do you build more than just kitchens?
Yes. In addition to kitchen cabinetry, we design and build custom millwork including built-in entertainment units, home office desks, closet systems, mudroom lockers, pantry walls, mantels, and architectural trim. If it involves custom woodwork, we can build it.
What is your warranty?
We stand behind our work. All cabinetry and millwork comes with a warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. Hardware (hinges, slides) is covered by the manufacturer's warranty, which is typically lifetime for the brands we use. We'll walk you through the specifics during your consultation.
